How I Lost 20 Kilos Without Giving Up Chocolate
By Dan
In September 2024 I made a decision that changed my life. I was tired of feeling heavy and tired of making excuses
Why I Knew Something Had to Change
The real wake-up call came at my daughter’s school.
I was invited to present at her assembly.
Afterwards a child made a cruel comment about my weight.
It hurt—not his comments at me, but what really hurt was seeing my daughter upset.
That was the moment I knew I couldn’t carry on as before.
I also realised that if I carried on like this then I wouldn't be around for my children as they grew up.
My Simple Plan
I didn’t follow a complicated diet.
I focused on three things every single day: -
Walk at least 10,000 steps
Keep calories under 2000
Keep my food low carb
That’s it.
No fad plans.
No endless lists of forbidden foods.
However the thing that made the difference was time.
Doing this one day is negligible, doing it a week was noticeable and a month was remarkable.
What Happened Over 12 Months
By sticking to those habits I lost 20 kilos (over 3 stone).
In particular I had an app that helped me which is based on streaks.
This really worked for me as it meant I had a record to maintain.
Seeing my record of walking the 10k steps each day became exciting!
I couldn't stand the idea of losing that streak, especially over 30 days.
It wasn't all plane sailing and there were some fluctuations along the way.
At one point I gained a little back, esp around Christmas but that's life and I decided not to beat myself up but rather be kind to myself.
That mental encouragement made it easier to get back on track.
I’m still on the journey, but I now know I can keep going.
I feel stronger, lighter, and more present for my family.
Oh and I've stopped snoring too so Basma my wife is delighted!
Chocolate Wasn’t Off the Menu
The biggest surprise?
I never felt deprived.
Every day I enjoy a few squares of Deliciously Guilt Free chocolate.
Because it’s low-carb and zero added sugar, it fits my plan and keeps my blood sugar steady.
It means I never feel like I’m missing out—something that usually makes diets stall or worse, fail.
Looking Ahead
I still have goals to reach, but the difference already shows in my energy and confidence.
This isn’t a quick fix.
Having a carb and sugar addiction is a serious thing and I know that it's all too easy to spiral.
So I'll take this one step at a time.
Each day staying committed to just staying on plan for that day
