Celebrities who follow keto and low carb - you'll be shocked at some of the names that appear!

The keto diet continues to grow in popularity. The general idea is to eat plenty of fat, a moderate amount of protein and keep carbs to under around 20g a day. More and more, people are losing their fear of eating fat. But who are the celebrities who are known to follow the keto diet? You may have heard of some of these famous people who eat low carb- but I can guarantee that a few of them will surprise you!

1) The Queen

You may be surprised to learn that the Queen also follows a low carb which involves no carbs at lunch, and her diet mostly consists of grilled fish or meat and veggies. The monarch doesn't speak publically about her diet and obviously indulges at events but when dining alone opts for low carb diet and has a 'no starch' rule.  The Independent shared her daily eating rituals which involve starting the day with a freshly brewed pot of Earl Grey tea sipped out of bone china, we wouldn't expect anything else! Her diet isn't entirely devoid of keto however as she still eats cereal and fruit for breakfast, and has been known to indulge in biscuits and chocolate.

2) Matt Hancock

The health secretary shared in 2018 how he had lost 2 stone by eliminating bread, potatoes and pasta from his diet. The horse racing town of Newmarket is in Hancock's constituency and apparently Frankie Dettori the famous jockey shared his low carb tips to losing weight before a race!

3) Halle Berry

The 51-year-old actress hasn’t been shy about her love for the keto diet. She told People in 2018 that she’s a big meat eater and doesn’t fill up on pasta or anything with added sugar. Instead, she says she said she fills her plate with healthy fats, including avocado, olive oil and butter.

"Being diabetic most of my life, I have always had to take food very seriously. So for years, I have been following the keto or ketogenic diet," she wrote on Instagram.

"I hate the word "diet" so while you'll see the word diet, just know I encourage you to think of it as a lifestyle change NOT A DIET! Keto is a very low-carb food plan which actually forces your body to burn fat like crazy. I also believe it's been largely responsible for slowing down my ageing process.
"The keto lifestyle offers so many benefits such as weight loss, (moms that's how we get rid of our baby bellies), appetite control, more energy and better mental performance.
"If you're like me, you can possibly reverse type 2 diabetes, you'll experience better physical endurance, better skin and also less acne if that's an issue."

4) Kourtney Kardashian

Kourtney Kardashian is considered among the fitness focussed of the Kardashian bunch. According to a People story from February 2018, Kardashian shared in her mobile app that going keto/low carb was a “really positive experience.” She said she first went keto after doctors found higher than average levels of mercury in her blood. She now eats cauliflower rice or broccoli rice in place of carbs which we love doing too! We have many essential keto recipes here

5) Gwyneth Paltrow

Paltrow has been known for her out there health advice through her lifestyle brand the infamous Goop, like recommending body stickers to ease anxiety and certain "interesting scents", as People reported in August 2017. According to a 2017 Bravo story, the actress and business mogul is a big fan of the keto diet. An article on Goop explains what the diet is all about and how to determine if it’s the right one for you.

"In most cases, you'll find that by simply cutting down on these foods and prioritising your fruit and vegetable intake, you're already placing yourself at a good chance of weight loss if you are carrying extra weight, but weight loss aside, you're sure to improve your health considerably."

6) Megan Fox

The actress and mom of three turned to the keto diet to get her pre-baby body back. Fox told E! News in August 2104 that she cut out bread and carbs, including chips, pretzels, and crackers. She said to another news organisation that she 'doesn't eat anything fun'.

7) Vanessa Hudgens

Hudgens doesn’t hide from bacon and all the good stuff. It’s all part of the actress and singer’s keto diet plan, which she says helped her drop 20 lbs from of her 5-foot-2-inch-tall frame in 2017. She told People News in April 2017 that it’s best to view food as fuel.

While she had been following the ketogenic diet for a while, after she saw a friend benefitting from intermittent fasting – another incredibly popular diet at the moment, she wanted to give it a go herself.
"Homeboy is ageing backward," the 30-year-old told Women's Health earlier this year.

8) LeBron James

Okay, technically LeBron isn’t a regular keto eater. But he shared how trying the diet affected him when he practiced a super clean version for 67 days as a “mental challenge” in 2014. He lost a load of weight by cutting out carbs and dairy and centering his dishes on meat, fish, fruits, and vegetables. So this was clean keto, which is a more extreme way of doing keto but it is extremely successful.

8) Jurgen Klopp

At the time of writing this, Liverpool have just won the Premiere League. Many congratulations to Jurgen Klopp and the team. Speaking of which did you know Klopp follows a low carb diet. In 2017 he was presented a Ginsters Cornish pasty but even though graciously accepting the gift he said "unfortunately I don't eat carbohydrates." What a legend!
